One Hundred Years of Memory
Many activities this term have centred around our theme celebrating the centenary of the end of World War I.
Some of the children have had the chance to ‘Meet Tommy’ with drills and a trench tour at Bodelwyddan Castle, some have made WWI propaganda posters, pupils have had the opportunity to handle original artefacts from WWI and the older children have read and watched the stage production of ‘War Horse’ – a story of a horse caught up in events during this period.
These activities have enabled the children to reflect on the hardships of war and sadness caused by separation of soldiers and their families.All Forms have contributed to our published book, ‘One Hundred Years of Memory’ in which writing pieces range from poems and prayers to diary entries and stories from the trenches.
Music and Drama departments have been working furiously towards our final event celebrating the World War I Centenary which included songs, ballads and parodies from the Great War. There were certainly some great moments of fun but also some very moving moments which suddenly brought home the severity of war and the effect on all those living one hundred years ago.
